Meta Retargeting Ads in Coimbatore: Win Back the People Who Nearly Bought

Quick answer

Meta retargeting shows Facebook and Instagram ads to people who already know you: website visitors tracked by the Meta Pixel, people who watched your Reels, followed or messaged your Instagram account, opened an instant form, or are on a customer list you upload. Meta calls these custom audiences. Done well, it uses short windows for hot intent (such as cart visitors in the last 7 days), longer windows for slow decisions, excludes people who already bought, and keeps the message fresh. Done badly, it shows the same banner forty times. Our fee comes after a free audience review; Meta bills ad spend directly to your account.

Very few people buy a sofa from a Kuniyamuthur showroom, book a knee consultation or join a weekend course the first time they see an ad. They look, leave and come back later, often after seeing you again on Instagram. Retargeting on Meta is how you stay in view during that gap.

This page covers the audiences we build, how long to keep people in them, what to show at each stage and how to avoid annoying anyone. Retargeting rarely runs alone; prospecting, creative and tracking get their own explanation in the Meta Ads agency in Coimbatore overview, while the Xtrodinry home page lists our address and other services.

Which custom audiences can you retarget on Meta?

Meta's custom audiences guide lists several sources. The ones we use most for Coimbatore businesses:

Audience sourceHow people get inTypical use
Website visitorsMeta Pixel records page visits and eventsProduct or service page viewers, cart and form starters
Video viewersWatched a set share of a Reel or video on Facebook or InstagramWarm-up before an offer
Instagram account engagersVisited the profile, saved a post, sent a messageLocal brands that sell mostly through Instagram
Lead form openersOpened or submitted an instant formFollow-up for people who opened but did not submit
Catalogue viewersInteracted with items in your product catalogueProduct reminders for online stores
Customer listYou upload emails or phone numbers of existing customersRepeat-purchase offers, or exclusion from new-customer ads

Can you retarget on Facebook without a pixel?

Yes, partly. Video viewers, Instagram and Facebook Page engagers and lead form openers are built from activity on Meta itself, so they need no website tag. That makes them useful for businesses without a website or with a site you cannot edit. Website visitors, however, can only be retargeted with the Pixel or the Conversions API in place, because Meta's website custom audiences page explains these are based on visitor tracking.

How long should someone stay in a retargeting audience?

The right window follows how long your customers take to decide:

  • Hot intent, 3 to 7 days. cart abandoners, people who started but did not finish a form, price-page visitors.
  • Short decisions, 14 to 30 days. salons, restaurants, events, everyday products.
  • Considered purchases, 60 to 180 days. furniture, treatments, admissions, property, machinery.
  • Past customers. kept separately, for repeat offers or to exclude from first-time-buyer ads.

Shorter windows mean smaller audiences, so each window must still have enough people for Meta to deliver. If a seven-day audience is a few hundred people, we widen it rather than over-serve them.

What should a retargeting ad say?

Repeating the first ad rarely works. We sequence the message by what the person did:

  1. Viewed but did not act

Answer the question that stopped them: price range, delivery area, parking, doctor timings, a short review video or the exact product they looked at.

  2. Started and abandoned

A direct reminder with one reason to finish now, such as limited slots this week, free delivery above a threshold, or a WhatsApp number for questions.

  3. Bought or enrolled

Thank-you, care tips, a referral offer or a related product, never the same ad that sold them.

How often is too often?

Example (illustrative, not a client result): how many times a showroom's visitors see one ad

Assumptions for a showroom in Kuniyamuthur:

  • Retargeting audience: 3,000 website visitors from the last 60 days
  • Retargeting budget: ₹400 a day
  • Meta CPM assumed (cost for every thousand views): ₹120

Impressions a day: ₹400 ÷ ₹120 × 1,000 ≈ 3,333. Across 3,000 people that is about 1.1 impressions each per day, or roughly 33 per person in 30 days.

Thirty-three views of the same sofa ad is too many. Holding frequency nearer 2 a week (about 9 a month) would mean 3,000 × 9 = 27,000 impressions, about ₹3,240 a month at the assumed rate, roughly ₹108 a day instead of ₹400. The rest of the budget is better spent bringing new visitors in through prospecting.

We watch the frequency column in Ads Manager weekly, rotate at least three creatives and exclude anyone who bought in the last 30 days.

Lookalike audiences: reaching new people who resemble your buyers

A lookalike audience starts from a source, such as your customer list or website purchasers, and finds people similar to them. Meta's guide to creating a lookalike audience notes that lookalikes are limited or unavailable for some ads about financial products, employment or housing. For most local businesses, a 1% to 3% lookalike of real customers is a better starting point than broad interest targeting.

Uploading customer lists responsibly

Meta's customer list guidelines ask for a CSV or TXT file with at least 1,000 customers and one main identifier, and Meta hashes the data to match it. We only upload contacts that people gave you with consent covering marketing, remove those who opt out, and keep the file off shared drives. India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and its Rules are phasing in; this is general information, not legal advice.

Retargeting searches and Meta pages we reviewed on 18 October 2026

  • Google's India suggestions for "how to retarget on facebook" included "without pixel", "website visitors" and "video views". "Meta retargeting" suggestions included strategy, pixel, audiences and audience size, so we built the sections above around those.
  • "Custom audience facebook" suggestions mixed advertising questions with organic post privacy settings; this page covers only the advertising meaning.
  • Meta's customer list guidelines page stated the file should contain at least 1,000 customers.
  • Coimbatore agency pages on page one listed retargeting as a bullet with "30/60/90-day windows"; none explained how to pick a window or cap frequency with numbers.

We reopen Meta's help pages before every set-up, since audience rules shift.

FAQ

Meta Retargeting Ads in Coimbatore: frequently asked questions

Yes. Both run from the same Meta ad account and custom audiences, so a person who visited your site can see the reminder on either app. We still make vertical versions of each creative for Instagram Stories and Reels.

There is no single minimum for delivery, but very small audiences cost more per person and burn out quickly. A customer list upload needs at least 1,000 customers. If a website audience is only a few hundred people, we lengthen the window or combine sources.

It works, with smaller audiences than before. Sending events through the Conversions API as well as the Pixel helps Meta match more visitors, and on-Meta audiences such as video viewers and Instagram engagers are not affected by browser tracking limits.

Usually from new-customer ads, yes, so you do not pay to reach people who already bought. For products people buy again, such as food, cosmetics or servicing, a separate repeat-purchase campaign for past customers makes sense.

A custom audience is made of people who already interacted with you or are on your list. A lookalike audience is new people whom Meta finds to be similar to a custom audience you choose as the source.

Yes, if one creative runs too often or for too long. We cap exposure through budget and frequency checks, rotate ads and stop showing an offer once it ends.
