Google Business Profile Suspended? How to Fix It and Get Reinstated

Quick answer

If your Google Business Profile is suspended, do not create a new profile. First find and fix the guideline problem, such as keywords in your business name, a virtual office address or a wrong category. Then make sure your name and address match your official documents exactly, open Google's Business Profile appeals tool, and submit one appeal with evidence like your business registration, licence, tax certificate or utility bills. Google reviews the appeal and emails its decision.

Few things worry a local business owner more than searching their own name on Google Maps and finding nothing. For a clinic, restaurant or service business in Coimbatore, the Business Profile often brings more calls than the website. The good news: many suspensions can be reversed if you fix the real cause and appeal properly. This guide explains how, using Google's own published process.

What does a suspended Google Business Profile mean?

Google may suspend or disable profiles that do not follow its guidelines. According to Google's help page on fixing suspended or disabled profiles, you can submit an appeal if you believe your profile should be reinstated. When a profile is removed, the public cannot see it, and the owner and managers cannot act on it until it is restored.

There are two different situations to tell apart:

  • Profile suspension: one profile has been suspended or disabled, usually because of something on that listing.
  • Account restriction: your whole Google account has been restricted, so every profile it manages is suspended and you cannot create or claim new ones. Google asks you to appeal the account first, then the profiles.

Why do Google Business Profiles get suspended?

Google does not always spell out the reason in detail, but the appeals tool shows the decision, the reason and a link to the policy involved. The most common causes I see for Coimbatore businesses are these.

Keywords stuffed into the business name

Changing "Sri Murugan Dental" to "Sri Murugan Dental Best Dental Clinic RS Puram Coimbatore" is one of the fastest routes to trouble. Your profile name must match your real-world name on your signboard, bills and registration.

An address customers cannot visit

Virtual offices, co-working desks you do not staff, a relative's house, or a PO box are not allowed as a storefront address. If you visit customers rather than the other way round, you should be set up as a service-area business with the address hidden.

Wrong category or ineligible business

Choosing a category that does not describe your business, or listing something that is not eligible (such as an online-only business with no customer contact in person), can trigger action.

Sudden big edits

Changing your name, address, category and phone number all at once can look like a takeover. Make important edits one at a time, and only when something has genuinely changed.

Duplicate profiles

Two profiles for the same business at the same location confuse Google. This often happens when an old employee or a previous agency created one and nobody remembers the login.

Review problems

Buying reviews, offering discounts for reviews or posting them from staff accounts goes against Google's policies. Our Google Maps ranking guide covers the honest way to ask for reviews.

How do I fix a suspended profile, step by step?

Step 1: Do not create a new profile

Google's help page is clear: do not create a new Business Profile for the same business. A second profile usually makes the situation worse.

Step 2: Read the reason in the appeals tool

Sign in with the Google account that manages the profile and open the appeals tool. It lists the date of the decision, the reason, a link to the policy and whether the decision can be appealed. Read the linked policy carefully.

Step 3: Fix every problem first

Go through your profile line by line against Google's guidelines for representing your business:

  • Business name exactly as on your signboard and documents, with no extra words
  • A real, staffed address, or a hidden address with service areas if you travel to customers
  • The most accurate primary category
  • A phone number that you answer, ideally local
  • A website link that shows the same name, address and phone

Step 4: Gather evidence that matches exactly

Google lists evidence that can strengthen an appeal: official business registration, a business licence, tax certificates and utility bills for the business such as electricity, phone, water or internet. Google's tip is important: the business name and address on your documents should match the profile you are appealing.

In Tamil Nadu, small mismatches are common. "Avinashi Road" on the profile and "Avanashi Rd" on the electricity bill, or "Kovai" in one place and "Coimbatore" in another. Fix these before you appeal. Clear photos of your name board, shop front and the inside of your premises are also useful to keep ready.

Step 5: Submit one careful appeal

In the appeals tool, select the profile and the decision, upload your files and use the text box to explain plainly what your business does, where it operates and what you have corrected. Google notes that appeals can only be submitted once, so prepare everything before you start.

Step 6: Wait, and do not keep editing

Google reviews the appeal and sends the decision by email. You can check the status in the appeals tool: submitted, approved, not approved, can't be appealed, or eligible for appeal. Avoid making more edits while you wait.

Step 7: If denied, request an additional review

Google says that if your reinstatement request is denied, it may be able to do an additional review. Use that route only with new evidence you did not include before.

What if my whole account is restricted?

If the account itself is restricted, every profile it manages is suspended. Google asks you to submit an appeal for the account from your account page first. Once the restriction is lifted, you then appeal each profile. Make sure the person who owns the business controls the main owner login, not an ex-employee or an old agency.

How do I avoid getting suspended again?

  • Keep one owner account in the business owner's name and add others as managers, not owners.
  • Never add keywords or area names to the business name.
  • Make one change at a time and only when something really changes.
  • Keep your name, address and phone identical on your website, Justdial, IndiaMART, Facebook and other listings.
  • Ask for reviews honestly, without gifts or discounts.
  • Be careful with "Google partner" calls asking for payment to keep your listing live. The profile itself is free, as our guide to GMB charges explains.

Frequently asked questions

Why was my Google Business Profile suspended?

Usually because something on the profile does not follow Google's guidelines, such as extra keywords in the name, an address customers cannot visit, a wrong category, duplicate listings or review violations. The appeals tool shows the reason and links to the policy involved.

Should I create a new profile if mine is suspended?

No. Google specifically says not to create a new Business Profile for the same business. Fix the issue and appeal the existing one instead.

What documents help a Google Business Profile appeal?

Google lists official business registration, a business licence, tax certificates and utility bills such as electricity, phone, water or internet. The name and address on them should match the profile.

How many times can I appeal?

Google says an appeal can only be submitted once. If it is denied, you may be able to request an additional review with new evidence that was not in the first appeal.

Can a competitor get my profile suspended?

Anyone can suggest edits or report a profile that seems to break the rules. A profile that follows the guidelines closely, with a real name, real address and accurate category, gives others little to report.

Does a suspension affect my reviews?

While the profile is removed, the public cannot see it, including its reviews. If the profile is reinstated, it is restored. This is one more reason not to create a fresh profile, which would start with no reviews.
