Digital Marketing News This Week (Nov 2026): Key Updates from Google, SEO & Ads

Covering Search Engine Land reports published 28 October to 5 November 2026 · By Karthik N
Quick answer
The biggest change for Indian businesses this week is that Google has started showing ads inside AI Mode in India. Alongside it: AI Mode can now book home services in the US, a Semrush report found more desktop searches leading to website clicks, rank-tracking data has become less reliable, product feeds now shape how Google's AI describes your products, and Google Ads added clearer reporting fields. Reddit is also testing search ads. Below, each update is summarised in plain English with what it means for businesses in Coimbatore and across India.
Every week brings dozens of search and advertising announcements. Most do not matter to a local business. I read through the most recent reports from Search Engine Land, one of the most widely followed search marketing publications, and picked the ones worth knowing about. Each section links to the original article, with the publish date shown in US Eastern time as listed on the site.
1. Google brings ads in AI Mode to India (28 Oct 2026)
What happened: Google announced it is scaling ads in AI Mode, its conversational search experience, to ten more countries, including India, Australia, Canada, Singapore and the Philippines. Brazil, Mexico and the UK are planned for later in Q4 2026. Google also launched "multiturn" ads in the US, which can appear on follow-up questions during an AI Mode conversation. Google says the ads are labelled "Sponsored", and reports that clicks on sponsored and organic product listings in AI Mode are already at similar rates. Read on Search Engine Land.
What this means for Indian businesses: Your Google Ads can now reach people asking longer, conversational questions in AI Mode in India. There is no separate switch to flip; eligibility comes through Google's automated campaign types. Make sure your conversion tracking is accurate and your ads and landing pages answer real questions clearly. Our Google Ads agency page explains how we set accounts up for this.
2. AI Mode adds booking links for home services in the US (4 Nov 2026)
What happened: Google's Robby Stein announced that AI Mode in the US now offers direct booking links for home services through partners such as Angi, Thumbtack, Housecall Pro and Jobber, with ServiceTitan coming soon. He described using AI Mode to compare local plumbers, check reviews and book one. Search Engine Land notes that Google has not explained how AI Mode chooses which providers to recommend. Read on Search Engine Land.
What this means for Indian businesses: This is US-only for now, but it shows where local search is heading: AI that compares reviews and details, then sends the customer straight to a booking. For plumbers, electricians, AC service and other home services in Coimbatore, the groundwork is the same as today: a complete Google Business Profile, genuine reviews, and a website that states services, areas and hours clearly. Our local SEO service and AI search optimisation service cover both.
3. More Google desktop searches are leading to website clicks: report (4 Nov 2026)
What happened: Search Engine Land covered Semrush's State of Search Q3 2026 report. In the US, the share of Google desktop searches leading to organic clicks on external websites rose from 39.74% in July to 46.11% in September, the highest in the 15-month study. Zero-click searches fell from 24.97% to 22.99% over the same period. AI tools made up 1.29% of US desktop activity in September, up from 0.72% a year earlier. The study covered desktop activity in the US and 32 European countries and did not include mobile. Read on Search Engine Land.
What this means for Indian businesses: The data is from the US and Europe, and desktop only, so treat it as a signal rather than a forecast for India, where most searches happen on phones. Still, it is a useful reminder that people still click through to websites from Google. Organic search is still worth the effort, as we discuss in Is SEO Dead with AI?. See our SEO services for how we approach it.
4. Rank-tracking and Search Console data may be less reliable (3 Nov 2026)
What happened: In an opinion piece, Ryan Jones writes that since mid-September Google has been deliberately serving altered results pages to automated scrapers, which he calls "SERP poisoning". He cites research from Nozzle that found about 8% of the 27.5 million results pages it analysed were deliberately poisoned. Ahrefs reported that 5% to 20% of results sent to data providers were affected. He also argues that scraping tools trying to get around this may be inflating some Search Console figures. Read on Search Engine Land.
What this means for Indian businesses: If a rank-tracking report suddenly shows big jumps or drops, do not panic or celebrate straight away. Check it against business results: calls, enquiries, Google Business Profile actions and sales. Impressions alone are a weaker signal right now. Our Search Console guide shows which reports to lean on.
5. Product feeds are becoming the "ad creative" in AI Mode (4 Nov 2026)
What happened: Sarah Stemen explains that in AI Mode shopping, Google's AI increasingly writes product explanations itself, using advertisers' Merchant Center product data. Her advice includes using clean, accurate product titles instead of keyword-stuffed ones, filling dedicated attributes for size, material and other variants, and using product detail and highlight attributes to reduce the chance of the AI inventing claims. She notes there is no separate AI Mode campaign type or report. Read on Search Engine Land.
What this means for Indian businesses: With AI Mode ads now live in India, online stores in Coimbatore and Tiruppur should treat their product feed as seriously as their ad copy. Complete, accurate titles, attributes and descriptions help Google describe your products correctly. Our Merchant Center guide covers setup, and our ecommerce Google Ads service handles feed clean-ups.
6. Discounts can make ROAS look better than profits really are (4 Nov 2026)
What happened: Heather Brousell explains that cart discounts, auto-applied coupon codes and Merchant Center promotions can stack on one order. Many apply at checkout, after Google has already set its bid. If the conversion value sent back to Google Ads does not reflect those discounts, Smart Bidding may chase sales that earn less than the reports suggest. Her fix is to send conversion values that reflect what each order actually earns and to bid for profitability. Read on Search Engine Land.
What this means for Indian businesses: Festive-season sales stack offers heavily. If your store reports full-price order values to Google Ads while customers pay less, your return on ad spend looks better than reality. Check what value your tracking actually sends. Our Performance Max vs Search guide explains why accurate conversion data matters so much for automated campaigns.
7. Measuring brand impact with attributed branded searches (3 Nov 2026)
What happened: Holly Kelly explains Google Ads' attributed branded searches, a reporting-only conversion type that counts people who searched for your brand on Google or YouTube after seeing one of your video or Demand Gen ads. By default it counts searches within seven days of viewing an ad (adjustable from one to 30 days), credits the last-viewed ad, and has no backfill. She stresses that it shows interest was created, not that revenue was, and that it does not measure incrementality. Read on Search Engine Land.
What this means for Indian businesses: If you run YouTube or Demand Gen campaigns to build awareness, this gives you a free, built-in way to see whether they lead people to search your name. Treat it as an early signal alongside enquiries and sales, not as proof of return.
8. Google Ads adds a second "search terms match type" field (5 Nov 2026)
What happened: Advertisers spotted two similar fields in Google Ads reporting: "Search terms match type" and "Search terms match type (Keywords)". Google's Ads Liaison Ginny Marvin confirmed this is intentional: the renamed "(Keywords)" field maps to the match type segment on the Keywords tab, while the new field maps to the Match type column on the Search terms tab. For now, the new field only returns all match types (such as AI Max) when the "Search term" column is included in a Report Editor report; a fix is in progress. Read on Search Engine Land.
What this means for Indian businesses: If you review search terms in custom reports, make sure you are using the right field and include the Search term column. Search term reviews are how you find waste; our negative keywords guide shows what to do with them, and our Google Ads management includes this weekly.
9. Reddit starts testing ads in its search results (3 Nov 2026)
What happened: Reddit is testing ads on its search results pages with a select group of advertisers, using its existing targeting, including relevance to the search query. Search Engine Land notes it is not known how many advertisers are involved or when the ads will be widely available. Read on Search Engine Land.
What this means for Indian businesses: For most local businesses this is one to watch, not act on. It does show that "search" now happens on many platforms beyond Google, including social and community sites. If your customers research on social platforms, our social media marketing and Meta Ads services can help you show up where they look.
The bigger picture
Three themes run through this week's news:
- AI search is becoming a paid channel in India. Ads in AI Mode are here, so ad quality, landing pages and feed data matter even more.
- Data quality matters more than ever. Whether it is poisoned ranking data or discounts hidden from conversion values, decisions are only as good as the numbers behind them.
- Basics still win. Accurate business information, genuine reviews, clear service pages and clean product data are what AI systems draw on.
Frequently asked questions

Yes. On 28 October 2026 Google announced it is scaling ads in AI Mode to ten more countries, including India. The ads are labelled "Sponsored".
Do I need a new campaign to appear in AI Mode ads?
According to Search Engine Land's reporting, there is no dedicated AI Mode campaign type. Eligibility comes through Google's existing automated campaign types and product data, so focus on accurate tracking, strong assets and clean feeds.
Is the AI Mode home services booking feature available in India?
No. As reported on 4 November 2026, the booking links are in the US with partners such as Angi and Thumbtack. Google has not announced an Indian rollout.
